NIRBHAY: India's sub-sonic Cruise Missile

“It is far tougher to climb up to a height than to maintain that.”  The given line’s credibility can be easily verified by the security arrangements in the modern world. Here a nation struggles more to get a status of a super power than to maintain that position. In other words it can be understood as a potential superpower struggle more than an established one. One such example of it is India. It struggles hard to grow up and prove its might over the Asian zone.
Proving its military might and bridging a critical gap in the nation’s arsenal, India successfully test fired its nuclear capable sub-sonic cruise missile dubbed as “NIRBHAY”. The test was done at the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur, in Orissa, for a distance of about 1,000 km. The missile has been developed by the state-run Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and has a range of 700-1000kms and is expected to take up the responsibility of being important nuclear delivery equipment for India’s strategic deterrence over the Asian landscape.
The most unique feature that sets it apart from its foreign counterparts is its high degree of maneuverability which makes it a much efficient nuclear device delivery vehicle. It is common for an ICBM but is unique for a cruise missile to have such capabilities. Moreover till date India’s AGNI series of missiles were the primary nuclear delivery agent but with the introduction of NIRBHAY, India got more grip over its military might. The missile is additionally capable of evading Radar and is veteran in fling at a tree top level making its detection and interception much more difficult. The missile’s effective range has been stated above 700kms hence taking its rivals like Pakistan and China well within its striking reach. Its uniqueness is even more amazing as it blasts off like a rocket, but then unlike a missile, it turns into an aircraft. Unlike other ballistic missiles like the AGNI, NIRBHAY has wings and pronounced tail fins which make it much like an aircraft than a missile during its flight. In early flight after launch, the rocket motor falls off and the small wings get deployed. At this point a gas turbine engine kicks in and it becomes like a full aircraft. Once near the target, it can even hover, striking at will from any direction. It gives India the capacity to launch different kinds of payloads at different ranges from various platforms at a very low cost. It can be launched from a mobile launcher. The missile has a fire-and-forget system that cannot be jammed. It is India's perfect and furious answer to Pakistan's BABUR missile.
This fearless missile was earlier test fired in early 2013, but the test was deemed as a failure. According to the officials the test was aborted during mid-flight of the missile when it deviated from designated path. But the recent test proves it to be worthy after the required technical resetting. The missile can be worthy for India’s nuclear triad. A mighty nation requires an efficient arsenal to make its dominance over its region, and NIRBHAY proves to be a jewel for such a developing nation.

Factor that dis-tempered Pakistan?

Pakistan, a well known South Asian nation has been tasting ailments since its creation in 1947. The Islamic nation has been battling to establish a viable democracy. The history of Pakistan has been strained with several political upturns and military coups. It is facing massive problems of poverty, literacy, nutrition, education and health.
God, Gift and Gun are the three basic supports on which Pakistan exists today. The God is the ultimate hope and hence the support for Pakistan as per the radical orthodox Islamist of the dis-tempered nation. Since being an Islamic nation much of the superstitions persist here. The religious leaders and Islamic radicals have been a major hindrance in its way to progress. They ban media, radio stations and even the screening of films! “The MULLAHS are against development in Pakistan”, argues Washington.
The Gift symbolizes the American aid that Pakistan gets even today. Due to some military and strategic interest, America befriended Pakistan. America’s war against terrorism paved a way for them to land on Pakistan’s soil during cold war and mostly after the horrific tragedy of 9/11. In return America helped Pakistan with humanitarian aid and military support. Ironically the ‘Humanitarian Aid’ was wasted entirely to bolster Pakistan’s defense rather than utilizing it on the basic needs of the pain struck nation. However if this much heavy aid was given to India, she would have definitely outranked China in terms of human development as well as military might.
The third and the most retarding agent on the Pakistan’s forehead is its Army itself. Right since its formation in 1947 Pakistan has encountered has almost half a dozen types of government but unfortunately failed to establish a single of them successfully. A single military intervention can be assumed as an aberration but FOUR COUPS in such a short span of 60 years certainly points toward a serious and major disorder. Martial Law, which is prominently known in Pakistan, is imposed periodically whenever a Democracy blooms up. A Civil Society that is a rudimental requirement for development has been bullied continuously in the lust of power and position.

A simple and straight remedy for Pakistan’s sufferings is the conduction of a fair election. A state is formed by land, people and sovereignty, and all these three components are there with Pakistan right now. The all it needs is an opportunity to elect a proper representative for itself. And to get it Pakistan will have to shift its focus from territorial disputes & power lust towards a much needed goal i.e. to achieve a viable government. It should utilize the various aids for the upping of its human development status rather than wasting it elsewhere. The Pakistan should belong to its people rather than being of any Superpower.

CHINA'S PREFERENCE : INDIA or PAKISTAN

A much discussed topic in south Asian region is the choice of China between India and Pakistan. China, although being an economic and military giant can’t make its complete dominance over the Asian landscape on its own. It will have to wave its strategic ties with an influential nation. And the two most prominent names that come into this context are India and Pakistan.
China has always kept an ‘all weather relation’ with Pakistan while that with India has been quite tasty. But the future is often entirely different from the present and the past. And when it comes to a diplomatic or military relation, it certainly becomes entirely unpredictable. Now coming straight down to the topic, we first need to get answers of two important questions in this context. And those are, which nation is more powerful and which one of the two can better serve the interest of China.
Let’s begin with the very first question. The answer is obvious and crystal clear. India in the context of economy, international influence and military power is far more superior to that of Pakistan. India is an active and influential member of some of the most prominent and prestigious organization like BRICS and G20, and is a leader of the developing world through the G77 and the Non-Aligned Movement. India is a potential superpower and is well poised to become a superpower in the world arena. Talking the economic perspective India still leads with a notable difference. The World Bank states that India’s GDP in 2013 was roughly $1.9 trillion while that of Pakistan was only $236 billion, only about 12 percent of India’s. Moreover In 2013, India was the 10th largest economy in the world in terms of GDP. India’s population is far greater than Pakistan’s, but even when looking at per capita GDP India entirely outranks Pakistan. This gap between two nations is probably going to widen further in near future, landing Pakistan with more minus if compared to India.
Now coming to the second question, we should checkout the quality of the nation of which china is looking for. Only that nation can serve china’s interest which has an effective presence in the world scenario. The country should be economically stable and strong, and should have common consent over the international issues. In this context the first name comes up is Russia followed by India. Hence the answer to our second question gets evidence. Sino-Indian partnership can serve China’s interests more effectively. And hence the Chinese leaders are well aware of this. Just after taking his office China’s Premier Li Keqiang paid a visit to India as part of his first trip abroad. And the same happened with President Xi. It is not merely a co-incidence that the two premiers paid visit to India soon after holding their offices rather it shows the keenness of China of endorsing Sino-Indian friendship. China and India had shared same views over Syria, Russia’s involvement in Ukraine, and the need to protect the interests of developing countries. Both the nations have worked together in BRICS and now India has been invited to join the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). These are the basic platforms for both the nations to work jointly.
The same cannot be with Pakistan since Pakistan has limited capabilities in world arena. It has a trembling economy which is not that efficient to support either of the military advancement or public development projects. On the other hand the U.S.-Pakistan relationship deteriorated significantly due to different approaches to the fight against terrorism. China will have to be careful to avoid repeating the failure in U.S.-Pakistan relations when it comes to fighting terrorism. Pakistan is much more eager to build up good relations and military ties with China.  Recently Pakistan has given its Gwadar Port to china to be used for military purpose. However, Pakistan’s rise in importance brings both opportunities and risks for a stable Sino-Pakistani relationship.
Of course there are certain strains in the Sino-Indian relation. Apart from the border issue (disputed Line of Actual Control); India’s relations with China’s rival countries like Vietnam and Japan could bring a retarding impact on developing Sino-Indian relations. To determine if the Sino-Indian relation is still healthy China should find out if the India’s outreach to South Asian nation was just part of normal national exchange or something else. China has become the world’s second largest economy and it is obvious that it want to become first. No other than India can serve China’s dream. India has a huge market and buyers which offers china to invest. In fact, the China-India collaboration can be beneficent as China increases its investments and helps propagate economic upping of India.

So far we have checked out almost all the aspect over which china will befriend a nation and hence we found out that India proves to be the best choice of China. However, it is not being said that China should totally overlook Pakistan. It’s quite important to maintain diplomatic and friendly relations with Pakistan as well to make its influential dominance over the South Asian zone.
